Intergovernmental Coordination for Resiliency
Tampa Bay Regional Planning Council staff engage stakeholders in the implementation of the Regional Resiliency Action Plan (RRAP) through a variety of Work Groups. Areas of focus include Management and Planning, Clean Energy, Shorelines, Communications, Infrastructure/Stormwater, Transportation, and Land Use/Building Design.
- The Resilient Shorelines and Spaces (RSAS) Work Group brings together public and private sector partners to address the growing economic, environmental, and community impacts of sea level rise and storm surge on the Tampa Bay region’s shorelines and coastal spaces.
This work group focuses on improving access to consistent shoreline data, exploring long-term shoreline management strategies, and supporting the implementation of resilient solutions. Discussions address a range of topics, including living shorelines, seawalls, wetlands, drainage, green and open spaces, environmental restoration, shoreline development, and the policies that influence how communities plan for changing coastal conditions.
Through regional collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and hands-on learning opportunities, the Work Group seeks to advance practical and innovative approaches to shoreline resilience, identify opportunities to align funding and technical resources, and promote nature-based solutions that can be adapted and replicated throughout the region.
- The Resilient Stormwater and Infrastructure Work Group brings together planning and engineering staff from local government and private organizations from the Tampa Bay region to share knowledge and resources to address stormwater and infrastructure challenges.
This work group supports partners as they build resilient strategies aligning with the local objectives from the Regional Resiliency Action Plan. The Work Group discusses opportunities to assess and improve stormwater runoff, analyze policies to improve the resilience of critical assets, and identify mechanisms and processes that support decision-making around infrastructure improvements to maximize operation in a future of climate uncertainty. Participants have recently paid particular focus to green stormwater infrastructures and resources to reduce risk to flood-threatened assets.
This work group is an opportunity to share and replicate success, bringing about the vision of reliable infrastructure that provides multiple benefits to communities throughout the Tampa Bay region.
