Tampa Bay Regional Planning Council Launches New Data Center Hub to Support Local Governments
Pinellas Park, Fla. — The Tampa Bay Regional Planning Council (TBRPC) is proud to announce the launch of its new Data Center Hub, a comprehensive online resource designed to help local governments weigh impacts on environmental resources, electrical infrastructure, water, and more.
As demand for artificial intelligence, cloud computing, edge computing, and digital services continues to accelerate, pressure to develop data centers in the region has increased. Many counties in the region have placed moratoriums on data center development to allow time to develop more robust growth management strategies.
The Data Center Hub brings together key information in one location, including:
- Ordinances from communities that have adopted development standards for new data centers
- A collection of national best practices to support decision-makers
- A regional inventory of existing data centers
“Local governments across Tampa Bay have been charged with assessing data centers in a fast-paced environment. Though small and medium data centers already exist in the region, large and hyperscale data centers present unique challenges and opportunities,” said Wren Krahl, Executive Director of the Tampa Bay Regional Planning Council. “The launch of the Data Center Hub reflects our commitment to supporting sustainable economic development and positioning the Tampa Bay region as a premier destination for digital infrastructure investment.”
The hub also reinforces TBRPC’s role in advancing regional resilience, infrastructure planning, and long-term economic prosperity.
Join the Conversation on the Future of Data Centers
To continue the regional discussion on digital infrastructure, TBRPC will feature a special presentation on data center development during its upcoming Council Meeting on Monday, August 10, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The meeting will bring together industry experts to discuss emerging trends in data center development, infrastructure requirements, economic opportunities, and considerations for communities across the Tampa Bay region. The meeting is open to the public and will be offered in a hybrid format, allowing attendees to participate either in person or online.
