TBRPC and NOAA Host a Regional Risk Communication Workshop

On January 11th and 12th, 2023, TBRPC and the NOAA Office of Coastal Management hosted a day-and-a-half Risk Communications Workshop. The participants, which included city and county staff, self-selected the audiences they wanted to work with including business owners, residents, elected officials, contractors, and internal staff.

Participants had the opportunity to develop new skills to better connect with diverse audiences. Attendees practiced these new skills, applied them to their own risk communication strategies, and collaborated with peers on local risk communication challenges. NOAA staff challenged participants to identify their audiences’ priorities, and motivations, and consider how to move toward action (buying flood insurance, adopting a resiliency plan, and developing a business continuity plan).
