Seagrasses are essential underwater plant species across the Tampa Bay Region and beyond. They provide habitat, a source of food, carbon sequestration benefits, and other important ecosystem services. Seagrasses are also an indicator species that serve as a measure of water quality and the health of other environmental conditions that can inform management actions.
For the first time in over two decades, seagrass coverage in Tampa Bay has been declining. The TBRPC produced a story map that illustrates the types of seagrasses, their rise and fall trends, and more.
