The Tampa Bay Regional Planning Council hosted the Florida Regional Councils Association’s (FRCA) semiannual meeting this June. The meeting, which took place on June 10th, included a presentation from Jared Perdue, Secretary of the Florida Department of Transportation.
Jared talked about Target Zero, which is a statewide initiative to reduce the number of transportation-related serious injuries and deaths across Florida to ZERO. Jared explained that on average, eight people are killed and 49 are seriously injured on Florida’s roads every day and in the majority of those serious and fatal crashes, driver behavior is a contributing factor. This initiative focuses on connecting, interacting, and designing our transportation system to specifically relate to those (drivers) that are most involved in crashes that resulted in serious injuries and fatalities.
Additionally, the meeting addressed topics such as the Resolutions recognizing the 60th Anniversaries of the East Central Florida and Tampa Bay RPCs, the 2022-23 Proposed Budget, and the 2022 Legislative Report and 2023 Legislative Agenda. During the meeting, the election of officers for the 2022-2023 Policy Board Executive Committee was also proposed. The nominating committee presented the nominations as follows:
